There are several different types of “Senior Living” from Small Cozy Homes to Larger Communities that Resemble Resorts.

  • Independent Living

Independent living for seniors is any housing arrangement for older adults who are mostly healthy and can still care for themselves. These communities offer private homes or apartments along with convenient services like meal prep, housekeeping, and social activities, but they do not provide medical or personal nursing care.

  • Assisted Living

Assisted Living is a residential housing community for adults who need help with everyday tasks such as bathing, dressing, and managing medications - but do not need 24/7 medical supervision. There are typically various levels of care available, based on the individual’s needs.

  • Small Care Home

Small care homes, often called board and care homes are regular homes in normal neighborhoods converted to care for groups - usually 6 to 10 residents. They offer a home-like environment with personalized help for daily activities like meals, bathing, and medication.

  • Memory Care

Memory care is a specialized form of long-term senior housing and 24-hour medical supervision designed for individuals with cognitive impairments such as dementia. They provide a secure, structured environment.

  • CCRC

A continuing care retirement community, or life plan community provides a full continuum of housing, residential services, and medical care in one location. Residents typically move in while independent and transition to assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing as their health needs change.
